Scouting:

Scouting has been an intricate part of the ministry of Lowe’s United Methodist Church since 1944 with the original Troop 98. In that time, our troop number changed to 798, 45 boys entered as Tenderfoot, and left at age 18 as Eagles, and hundreds of boys have experienced the adventures of Scouting. Sadly, our troop folded five years ago. We are proud to announce that Troop 98 is back, alive, healthy, and active. In October of 2007, the United Methodist Men of our church sponsored a new Cub Scout Pack, for boys 1st through 5th grades, and a Boy Scout Troop, for boys 6th through 12th grades.

Statistics tell us that a boy that goes through scouting is much more likely to be a success in life, and have a well rounded positive outlook. They are more likely to be active in their community and their church. They are more likely to volunteer and work for the welfare of others less fortunate. These are just a few of the reasons that we see Scouting as a ministry for the people of our community.

What are Lowe's Scouts doing?:

Our Cubs will be doing loads of fun activities like the Pine Wood Darby, and Summer Day Camp, and we hope to have a Cub Scout Family Campout this summer at our Boy Scout Troop Campground.

Our Boy Scout Troop is planning three weeks of camp this summer. One week in the mountains of North Carolina in June. One week at Camp Cherokee in July, our District Boy Scout Camp, and one week on the Outer Banks of North Carolina in August. The rest of the year, we will be camping at least once each month at our troop campgrounds, thanks to Mr. Eddie Coleman, on the banks of the Haw River, just five miles from the church.
